theres this question regarding behavioral sc.

who gives consent for a treatment of a pregnant 14 year old girl? the guardian or the girl herself? in the Uworld q bank it says that she can give the consent herself, but the kaplan text book says her mother has to give it?

Can anyone help and give me the right answer.....?
Thanks

Always assume competent pt unless told otherwise. No consent needed for patients under 18 for ER situations, STD treatment, medical care during pregnancy and managment of addiction. So in this case, she gives the consent. Notice I did not mention abortion since this issue varies from state to state so it cannot be tested on the exam. Hope it helps.

Hey i am still not convinced ammar. I think the girl is competent to give consent for pregnancy related procedures. but for all other diseases Parents are the ones who make the decision.
